SCCA Group 17 Spec Miata race on September 4th, 2011 @ Infineon Raceway. This was the second Spec Miata race of the weekend. On board with car #20: Andrew Holifield. My 3rd and final race of the weekend. This one was a total blast: much smoother & controlled all around the track. I had my line pretty much nailed down and cruised through the back of the field. The start was a bit fast (and stretched out) I was in the back of the pack and expected to get way slowed down into T-11 (like the other races) but instead pretty much started my race in T-7.
NASA Group C race at Infineon Raceway on February 12, 2012. This is a mixed class race with staggered starts. My car is a Spec Miata racing in the PTE class. I was a bit outclassed with my Toyo RA-1s going up against full race slick Hoosiers. Nonetheless, I had a great battle going on with the 64 car for most of the race.

This 2003 Miata Shinsen Edition was a brand new build by OPM Autosports in Cumming, GA. They installed cage, seat, Schroth 6 point harness, SPA AFFF 6 nozzle fire suppression system, radiator, brake lines, tow hooks and much more. They also oversaw the painting of the interior and hard top. Their workmanship is beyond reproach. It really was the coolest looking track Miata I had ever seen — which makes this story so sad (OPM also did ride height, corner weights and alignment for Spec Miata class and provided track side support for this NASA SE event). I was in HPDE 2 group (one step above beginners). I waited three months for the build to complete. I promised myself I would not wreck on the very first weekend I had the car back but … I did. I hit the inside wall after T3 pretty hard. Personally, I think I went to full throttle too soon at T3. If I had just waited a few tenths longer until the right rear tire had cleared the curbing before mashing the throttle, I think I would have been ok. It’s a painful lesson.

NASA Spec Miata race at Infineon Raceway on February 12, 2012. Started 11th, finished 9th. A few highlights: 2:38: Had a good run going on the #27 and then had a bit of a “moment” in T10. 3:15: Another small moment in T2, might have been some pickup from the earlier problem. 3:55 Had a run going on the #27 into T7 when the yellow flag comes out. 4:10 And here’s the reason for the yellow flag. Check out the tire wall on driver’s right and the front of the E30 sitting on driver’s left at the end of T8. 4:20 Snookered the #27 on the restart only to lose a place to the #64. 5:20 Outside pass on the #64 in T6 to regain position. 5:50 Passing an E30 that goes just a bit wide on the exit of T6. Had a run going at the finish for 8th place and came up a few feet short.

NASA Spec Miata Race at Sears Point (aka Infineon Raceway) on March 3, 2012. The top 10 spots were inverted. I qualified 8th place, started in 3rd place, and ended up finishing 7th. Lost a bunch of spots at the start when I had to breathe the throttle going into T1.
