SCCA Spec Miata Race Thunderhill 4/1/2012

SCCA SFR Spec Miata race at Thunderhill on April 1, 2012. I qualified 10th, and had a decent start. We played a bit with tire pressures and must have gone the wrong way, because the car was pretty loose. I was trail-braking deep into T11 to try and get a run on the 44 car into T14 when he brake-checked me a bit, and I got sideways trying to avoid him. Took to the grass and lost a bunch of spots. After that, the car didn’t seem quite as fast. About 15 minutes in, I started noticing a vibration. Not long after that, coming through T14, it got a lot worse. Going on to the front straight, the diff let go and put an end to the day.

NHMS fastest lap in qualifying. 1.15.886. The lap record counts only during a race (which I did the next day, 1.16.26).

This is what happens when Portland Homes For Cars goes to the track for some seat time! I took a break between instructing students to have my mentor Gary Bockman take me around the track at full speed in one of our cars. Two fast laps around Portland International Raceway by Gary Bockman of BSI Racing in a 1999 Spec Miata.

Highlights from the SCCA Spec Miata race at Thunderhill on March 31, 2012. The rain made this an interesting race. I missed qualifying due to a problem getting through tech (expired belts) on qualifying day. Started at the back and worked my way about halfway through the field. Highlights: 3:00 Car has spun into the pit lane driver’s left 5:50 Car driving through the mud on the outside of T14/15 6:10 Another car slides through T14 9:35 The monsoon starts, everyone starts hydroplaning 9:53 I do a solo pirouette in T1
Lap 1 of Race 2 on 3/17/12 Spec Miata group, NASA TX race at MSR Cresson. Some serious speedy dry down in Big Bend results in a very dramatic effect as the cars enter the turn!

SCCA ARRC 2010 Enduro Spec Miata start Road Atlanta

In 2010 the Atlanta Region SCCA ran the SM2 regional class in the enduro that is specifically for all first generation Mazda Miatas complying to the SCCA’s Spec Miata rules. This video is from SM2 #66, start and run to the class lead. Car owner qualified the car unsorted and codriver started the race after sorting the car.
