This is THE most mental race I’ve had so far! Side by side everywhere (and not just because the other guy is blocking me, like in the past, but because we are really fighting), lead swaps, and one of the closest photo finishes in a while. Awesome race! See the start and then jump to 9′15″. After that it’s wheel to wheel all the way to the end.
I won a new Hero2 GoPro and thought it would be cool to try some new camera angles out. I have always wanted to do a helmet cam, I think the camera needs to be a little higher for next time. I did this off the chin part of the helmet.

NHMS fastest lap in qualifying. 1.15.886. The lap record counts only during a race (which I did the next day, 1.16.26).

Spec Miata Qualifying at Putnam Park (1:22.5)

I found this video on my computer while looking through some old footage. I thought it would be interesting to share as it gives the viewer a pretty good idea of how hectic a qualifying session can be – we typically think of the race being the challenge and qualifying being smooth, clean, open laps. Unfortunately, three classes qualifying at once (Spec Miata, Spec E30, and Spec 944) means track space is a premium and drivers really have to battle for real estate. You’ll see that I never get a “clean” lap. Perhaps I was too aggressive early in the session and perhaps not enough toward the end. I certainly could have taken better care of my front left tire during the session! Either way, one thing is for sure: you can’t expect clean laps in qualifying and you can’t give up on a lap because of traffic. One of these “dirty” laps came in at a 1:22.5; good enough to put the car P2 on a 25 car grid. As a final note: I apologize for the last 5 minutes of seemingly useless footage. I left it attached to the video because it features a couple good friends of mine and I thought it a cool reminder for myself of how long these guys and I have been supporting each other trackside! Thanks guys!

In 2010 the Atlanta Region SCCA ran the SM2 regional class in the enduro that is specifically for all first generation Mazda Miatas complying to the SCCA’s Spec Miata rules. This video is from SM2 #66, start and run to the class lead. Car owner qualified the car unsorted and codriver started the race after sorting the car.
A highlight reel of some of the more exciting moments during the 2011 SCCA Mazda Spec Miata season. This was our first year racing sports cars and we had a great season amassing multiple wins, a track record, and the CACC Sports Car Rookie of the Year honors. 2012 will mark new beginnings as we are focused on drifting, obtaining our PRO Formula Drift license. Come along for the ride – www.brodygoble.com
