I won a new Hero2 GoPro and thought it would be cool to try some new camera angles out. I have always wanted to do a helmet cam, I think the camera needs to be a little higher for next time. I did this off the chin part of the helmet.

I pass 911 on lap 5. I then spin at Turn 14 on lap 6 at 1:35 (4:22 in video). Corvette then passes me and then I catch corvette and pass him.

2012-04-21 – Spec Miata Engine Explodes on the Track – Barber Rezoom Event

My stock 1.8L with 92K miles on it explodes on the Barber track. Luckily I did not get charged for oil cleanup (Barber is really strict in terms of giving you a bill for any cleanup or damage to their facility – but it is a nice track). This was a stock engine except the timing wheel had been adjusted per the SM rules for 1.8L. There was a hole in the block for number 4 cylinder and bits of piston head had come out the hole. I will take the engine out and examine the damage more closely. But now I need a new engine

My first Spec Miata race win. They inverted the top 10 after qualifying placing me 6th on the grid for the race. Great racing with Kyle Loustaunau and Phillip Holifield. Almost threw it away being defensive…..

March 11, 2012 Road Atlanta Miata Crash – NASA HPDE 2 group

This 2003 Miata Shinsen Edition was a brand new build by OPM Autosports in Cumming, GA. They installed cage, seat, Schroth 6 point harness, SPA AFFF 6 nozzle fire suppression system, radiator, brake lines, tow hooks and much more. They also oversaw the painting of the interior and hard top. Their workmanship is beyond reproach. It really was the coolest looking track Miata I had ever seen — which makes this story so sad (OPM also did ride height, corner weights and alignment for Spec Miata class and provided track side support for this NASA SE event). I was in HPDE 2 group (one step above beginners). I waited three months for the build to complete. I promised myself I would not wreck on the very first weekend I had the car back but … I did. I hit the inside wall after T3 pretty hard. Personally, I think I went to full throttle too soon at T3. If I had just waited a few tenths longer until the right rear tire had cleared the curbing before mashing the throttle, I think I would have been ok. It’s a painful lesson.
