I didn’t race my Spec Miata at all in 2011, so I figured I should at least bring it out to a track day to remember how it’s done. This 1:42.485 wasn’t my best lap of the day, but it was my best before my camera’s batteries died. I was held up badly at the end of the lap by a BMW M3, which, despite having almost two and half times the power of my Miata, held me up for several more laps after. Depending on which of my data devices you believe, it slowed me down by somewhere between 0.5 seconds and 0.8 seconds on this lap alone.

Autocross: 2007 SCCA Packwood Pro Solo right side – Porsche Boxster S

2007 Sports Car Club of America Packwood Pro Solo right side course. The course was the tighter of two tight and narrow courses — there was no room for line selection. I don’t drive well on these kinds of courses, and it shows in both my tentativeness and my time. It’s hard to tell in the video, but there’s a sharp crest followed by an off-camber falloff right before the finish. I carried too much speed over this, which is why I spun.

My fastest run on the 2009 Sports Car Club of America Solo National Championship’s West course. Left a bunch of time on the course, primarily due to overcooking a few corner exits, which delayed my getting on the power. Sorry about the sound quality — I realized about an hour before running that I’d forgotten my microphone, so I used a pair of earbuds instead.
