I did own a turbo AWD car by the way and I wasn’t impressed. A 1988 Celica GT4 Alltrack as it’s called. It was fun to have all that in such a small car, but it didn’t corner better than my C4. It wasn’t fater either. My C4 is only two years newer, 1990. The GT4 was better suited for the tight city streets, but on the wider freeways and sprawling over pass curves the Vette wins. But the tire size is a big factor I’m sure. Vette has 4 wheel steering too. Wider track.

A lot of what determines great lap times too are who’s driving and the kind of track per kind of vehicle on that given track. I would think a Miata would be great on a tight track and Corvette on a wider one. AWD? Dunno. Logic tells me that anything is better suited in the enviornment it was designed best for. At this point, I think anything could beat anything given the right set of circumstances. So if a Miata spanked an STI I wouldn’t faint, but I’d want to know why and how…

Well I did contradict my argument a little there, let me clarify. I am a fan of WRC, but I am referring to the street version of the car. The STREET EVO is better than the street STi. The Dodge Stealth was a fat pig, it takes more than just one thing to put something over the top. Miatas are quick, but I’ve seen plenty of stock cars outpace them. The only reason miatas tend to run better times is because its the go-to car for autocross and are usually prepped specifically for it.

The last time mitsu has won in WRC was 10 years ago buddy. Just sayin’. And i don’t know what autoX you’ve been to, but 2200lb 120hp miatas often get MUCH great laptimes than any stock vehicle (including wrx’s, lancers, fc’s,fd’s,ae86’s corvettes, etc). The dodge stealth had “active yaw”… That doesn’t mean its a world class sports car.

fast and furious? try WRC, I’ve been a fan since I was in diapers. I’ve seen EVOs run at autocross, they embarrass miatas. Miatas are great cars, and fun cars, but you don’t fuck with active yaw and the power to back it up. The only WRX that comes close is the STi, and even that is a mushy slouch by comparison, ask a european driver, they’ll inform you.
McCrispyLips | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Listen, you faggot JDM fanboy. You talk like you think you know something, but you drive a FWD econo box? You know that a MIATA will run CIRCLES around your evo? or an fd? Hell, even a WRX makes an EVO look like shit.
You watch far too much fast and furious dude.

just ignore this retard, he is a hypocritical moron who knows nothing about cars and thinks he is better than everyone. He can’t appreciate any real cars because he drives shitty imports and doesn’t want to feel bad about anything he does since he thinks hes the shit. He also came and watched a C4 video and hates the c4…wtf is he even here watching or commenting on it?

the fact that you care so much about money and the status of it as a label on people makes you sound like an ignorant ass than noone here or ever should even bother talking to. “I will make more money than you will in your entire life” First of all who the fuck cares? why does that matter to you?? You honestly think you are a better person than someone else because of that? secondly, someones entire life?? Do you really think you will make that much in your first year of anything LOL.
sidescrollin | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
then why the fuck did you just make a claim about the car being useless on regular road?? the only other option is a dirt road or snow or something stupid anyway.
ewhaddix | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
A 60’s Ferrari IS a performance car.
I was asking if you delivered my pizza because you have the attitude of someone in that typical college age group. I wasn’t implying anything about your financial status.
Your statement about making more in a year than I will in my life was foolish. You have no clue what I do or who I am.
Jeremy Clarkson also said that Mercedes S600 Coupes were the best thing since sliced bread and I bought one back in 1995 and it was the biggest pos I ever owned.
neogeon | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
dirt road? tha fuck? don’t you know the EVO can run circles around almost any car (except the GTR) on PAVED roads? The AWD gives it advantages in yaw and traction that no 2WD car can match.
neogeon | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
in absolute terms? no, it isn’t.
And thank you for confirming the fact that you’re an elitest snob more interested in a status car than a high performing one. For the record, I’m an engineer that’s about to go to law school to become a patent attorney that will make more money in a year than you will make in your life. I think I might buy a C4 just to set it on fire and e-mail you the video. Jeremy Clarkson already did a nice job by mowing one down with a 50 BMG.
ewhaddix | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
So I guess you think a 1960’s Ferrari isn’t a performance machine since it can’t out handle your Sentra?
Did you deliver my pizza last night?
ewhaddix | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Your Spec V is a special run car just like the ZR1 and the Grand Sport. Guess what…a limited run Sentra is still a Sentra. A base Corvette is a CORVETTE. All Corvettes will appreciate in value in the long run. They have been making them since 1953 and they are an American legend. They will continue to make them until Obama closes down GM.

So why do you have an elitist mindset when it comes to small japanese 4 door cars with 4 cylinders…you see the problem here?? You are incredibly stupid and hypocritical.
I can put nitrous on a scooter..does this make it a Gixxer?
sidescrollin | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
so a piece of shit low quality ugly ass worthless 91 civic is a better buy because its faster???? Is a 92 explorer a better buy than a 32 coupe because its faster?? You are so unbelievably stupid and just keep making yourself look more ignorant and dumb.
sidescrollin | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
lol you claim shit about “2 seat sports car” then you go on to be a AWD and turbo fanboy. You are a biased hypocrite. Why the fuck would you drive a corvette offroad ?? no shit its not made for that. This is just more excuses ” welll my cars better because I can drive on a dirt road”. Stfu thats no excuse.
sidescrollin | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
your “spec v” will never amount to anything. Only depreciate in value. Any car following the Corvette name is going to bring money regardless of quality. Most performance v8s are a breeze to maintain and kick it out very well. The only car I have owned which I had problems with is a cheap jjapanese 4banger. The BMW inline 6 and all of the American v8s I have owned take very little maintenance and will last forever.
sidescrollin | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
lol noone should even continue arguing with you. Obviously you haven’t been around the car if you think it has shag carpet. Do you seriously believe it costs 3x as much to do fiberglass work?? LOL
neogeon | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
The point I’m making is that its a rigid car with great handling and can run circles around a good bit of 2 seater cars. People just take this elitest mindset when it comes to this sort of thing like the Corvette is better because it says “Corvette” on it.
ewhaddix | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
That’s true Sentra’s are just like EVO’s. They are both made in Japan and they both have 4 doors, 4 wheels, and 4 cylinder engines. Throw in some AWD and a Turbo and you would have an EVO. Suddenly your Nissan would become a Mitsubishi.
If you are going to make absurd comments like that, all my Corvette C4 would need to become a C5 is 30hp, a double wishbone rear suspension instead of the 5 link, and a few minor tweaks to the chassis.
neogeon | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Sure the C4 was good for its time, all cars were slow and handled crappy until the very late 80’s and early 90’s. That doesn’t change the fact that owning one doesn’t give you the right to be some elitest saying you drive a “real performance machine” when the average sports sedan can wipe the floor with you. When buying a car strictly for performance, its all about absolute terms. If a 91 Civic is faster than an 84 Corvette, the Civic is a better buy.
neogeon | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
thats just more of that “2 seat sports car” elitism bullshit. An EVO would eat everything up to a C5 for breakfast and the only difference between my car and an EVO is a Turbo and AWD. My car can slice through any terrain you throw at it, I would be scared to death to try to push the Corvette anywhere but a drag strip or wide open circuit because its so unpredictable. It’s just a sloppy car, that’s all there is to it.
neogeon | August 21, 2010 at 5:33 pm
I should also add: once you factor in cost of ownership and what an unreliable piece of shit any Corvette is (excluding maybe the C6, which I am curious to give a try), the value in 30 years is a moot point because you would’ve spend 10x as much to keep the Corvette running. I don’t see a C4 ever becoming collectable because there are so many and its a mostly frumpy and uninspiring car to look at. At least my car (2002 Spec V) was a somewhat limited run.

It won’t run equel to a new STI in stock form, but hey, why should it? It’s a 20 year old, naturally asperated car coming out of the dark ages of HP. But that’s ok because we have newer Vettes these day too, more than able to beat the piss out of that challenge.
And in my opinoun you don’t need to drive the fastest car to have fun. Get what you can afford and have the most fun in your own life that you can. And don’t knock anyone if you can buy better, you’re just lucky is all. For now anyway.
