Spec Miata Rolls Over

Spec Miata Rolls Over in turn 10 at Summit Point. The data indicates a speed of approx 85mph at turn in…too fast for the setup of the car. After the first correction he is into the marbles on the outside of the turn…and going into the trap sideways does not help the situation. Driver OK, car amazingly OK as well. Cracked the hard top and busted the drivers side window, mirror and fender. Raced the next day.

Nope, wrong car – the car you are talking about is featured in another YouTube video called “SCCA MARRS 8 Spec Miata – Wilson Flips”, among others. That car was named “The Deer Hunter” as it was also the car Wilson was driving when he hit a deer in the chute during the 12 Hour race a few years ago.

If this is that blue KingRat car, I think Bret at RP Performance revived it and now it’s a rental that my friend just drove last weekend!

YOu hardly ever see cars hit the tire wall on the front stragiht though, they’re pretty hard to hit. I’ve spun around there a couple times, and never came close to hitting the tire wall

no worries that’ll buff out

I run group two and I haven’t seen too many cars there lift a wheel at all because you are usually back on the gas for that turn. The gravel is deep though.

I did, however, see a brand new Elise eat shit from lifting and hit the wall. It was barely broken in.

Well, Ive been to that track and to confirm armitage64’s point, the gravel trap there in that turn is really deep.

Its also fun to watch some of the cars with higher CoG’s go through that turn on 3 wheels, since the right rear lifts off the ground :)

Thanks for that insight. Didn’t think of that.

As the car is sliding sideways, the outside wheels dig into the sand and create a pivot point about which the rest of the car rotates… Up and over! Wonder how the damage was, the alternative is to spin to the inside into the tirewall there and that can be messy too.
